Changes to certain tobaccos from January 2011

Some of our customers will very soon notice a difference in the cut of their pipe tobacco. As of the 1st January 2011 the government has increased the minimum cut for pipe tobacco from 1.2mm to 1.5mm. This means that all tobaccos that have a cut under 1.5mm will be classed as hand rolling tobacco and will incur duty at that rate. I would expect that the majority of our customers will see little or no change to their tobacco as only the following tobaccos will be most affected by this change: all our loose shag tobaccos and pre packs such as Clan and Borkum Riff.
